The Walt Disney World Trivia Book 2-pack Review!

Right now, my family is down in Orlando, Florida, enjoying the weather and soaking up some rays. Me on the other hand, I am at home, freezing cold in -25 degree Celsius temperatures. This year we were hoping to go to Orlando with them but with the price of tickets (some upwards of $1000CAD), we decided to leave it for another year. When Mom Fuse contacted me about doing a review on some travel books from Intrepid Travel, I thought this might be a great alternative. When I looked at Intrepid Travel’s website to choose a title I’d like to review, I was happily surprised that they had several Disney books to choose from. How perfect is that?

So thank you to Mom Fuse and Intrepid Travel, I had the chance to review their Walt Disney World Travel Book 2-pack, featuring volumes 1 & 2. I have been to Walt Disney World twice before but I know I still have a lot of learn. Before receiving these books, I was sure that these books would be my solution. I figured…maybe when my family comes home, I’d be able to impress them with all my Disney knowledge. So, when the books arrived, I was excited to start studying (did I just say I was excited about studying?). When it comes to Disney, almost anything associated with it is fun. In addition, I figured I’d be able to pretend I was there by reading through these books.

The first thing that struck me about both of these books was how many questions each book had. Honestly, I had no clue there was that much to actually know about Disney. Volume 1 has 214 pages full of trivia questions and Volume 2 adds another 213 pages of trivia questions to the total (these number of pages includes the answers at the back of each chapter). The Volume 1 edition is divided into 6 different sections: All Around the ‘World’, The Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Beyond the Parks. The second volume offers the same six categories but adds additional subcategories to make it easier to find questions based on what you are looking for. For example, if you look in the Table of Contents in Volume 2 for the Magic Kingdom, you can now direct yourself to questions on Mickey’s Toontown Fair or Tomorrowland, etc. I really think this change in the second volume is great! It definitely saves time searching.

Aside from the introduction in each book being almost the same, I was impressed by the diversity of questions from one volume to the next. When buying almost the same book but one that is the first volume and one that is the second, I am always concerned about how different they will actually be. Luckily, this was an exception from most.

My favorite part of these books is of course the trivia questions. My next favorite part was all the ‘Did You Know?’ boxes found throughout the book. These boxes are found on every few pages and allow you to fill your brain with even more Disney facts! These ‘Did You Know?’ boxes managed to teach me quite a bit I didn’t know. For example, “Did you know? There are enough Disney character T-shirts sold in WDW [Walt Disney World] each year to put Mickey Mouse’s smiling face on every person in Chicago.” I found this one quite amusing. A lot of my family lives in Chicago and I have visited there before. This one gave me a visual image of everyone walking down the busy streets of Chicago wearing Mickey shirts…Quite amusing.

Another aspect I like about these books is that not only does it tell you the answer to each of your questions but it gives you an extremely detailed response. Therefore, not only do you know the answer to the question but you actually understand the answer too! That means, when you tell someone a fact you learned from this book and they ask you more about it, you will actually be able to tell them.

The final aspect I like about these books is something that makes finding what you are looking for in these books even easier. Both books have a great index section at the end of them so that you can really get specific with the information you are looking for. For example, say you are reading Volume 1 and you want to find more information about the Indian Jones stunt show. All you need to do is go to the back of the book, find the index, go to the letter ‘I’, and look up ‘Indiana Jones stunt show’. The book then tells you that there is information related to this attraction on pages 46 and 168. When I go to page 46, I found out that it was actually the answer to a question, #48 in the All Around the ‘World’ section. When I went to find the question, here is what it said:

“The largest moving sets in the world are found at which location?
a.) The Great Movie Ride
b.) Universe of Energy
c.) Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular
d.) Fantasmic”

Now you know, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is the largest moving set in the world!

As you can imagine, both of these books are a lot of fun! I have had a good time looking through them. These books are truly great for everyone in the whole family. They are perfect for having at home and flipping through in your spare time, leaving them on your coffee table as a conversation piece, or bringing them with you on a road trip. Both of these books give you endless hours of fun! I would highly suggest these books to anyone that loves Disney, who has been to Disney, who is going to Disney, or who dreams of visiting Disney!

Both of these books, as well as many other travel themed books can be purchased at The Intrepid Traveler Online Store.

Of course, I couldn’t talk about my trips to Disney and not provide you with a picture. The picture I have included above is of my boyfriend and me at the Animal Kingdom in front of the Tree of Life (February 2007).

E-cloth Review (plus a link to a giveaway)!

I think we are all guilty of it…using paper towels for cleaning. Truth be told, it is often easier and more hygienic than using a cloth repeatedly. Unfortunately, although it may be slightly easier, it can have drastic effects on our environment. Just think for a moment, about the last time you cleaned your bathroom. Did you use paper towels? If so, how many did you use? Now, think about how many reusable cloths you could have used instead. The answer is likely one or two. With the environmental concerns growing in recent years, I really try to do my part to reduce my effect on the environment. In the past few months, I have started taking shopping bags to the store more often and I have switched from chemical cleaners to natural cleaners, etc. In addition, I recently found out about a great new product that has allowed me to switch from using paper towels for cleaning to one simple cloth: the E-cloth.

Review
When E-cloth emailed me and asked if I was interested in trying some of their products, I was definitely interested. E-cloth states that their products completely eliminate the need to use nasty chemicals for cleaning; all you need is their e-cloth and water. Needless to say, after seeing this statement, I was a bit skeptical. I asked myself, “How is it possible to clean something with only water?” It just didn’t make sense...until I received my E-cloth Kitchen Pack.

The E-cloth kitchen pack contains one E-cloth general purpose cloth and one E-cloth glass & polishing cloth. The general purpose E-cloth is made from a thick woven fabric that ensures any mess, even grease, will be easy to remove. The general purpose E-cloth is made to clean virtually any hard surface. For example, stainless steel, laminate countertops, chrome surfaces, etc. E-cloth says that their product can easily “scrape, lift, capture and absorb dirt, grime, water, oil, grease, and residue.”

The first time I used the general purpose E-cloth, I used it on my countertops and my stove. I noticed that it did a great job of removing all the dirt and grime that was left over from suppertime. It even removed a few stuck-on, hardened messes. I was quite impressed that this could be achieved with only using water. The E-cloth was very easy to use. All I had to do was soak it with warm water, ring it out, and start cleaning. After I finished using it, I rinsed it out (again with warm water) and hung it to dry. The reason I usually use paper towels is because after a day or two of hanging my dishrags in the kitchen, they start to stink (and that is putting it nicely). I absolutely hate the smell it gives off and the smell it leaves on my hands. I figure something like that can’t really do a good job of cleaning, and therefore, I hope you understand why I had been using paper towels in the past. I can imagine a few of you can relate. This leads me to the fact that the general purpose E-cloth had a surprising and wonderful benefit! I was able to use the E-cloth consistently for over 2 weeks (using the same process as above), without this “smelly dishrag” problem. After about 2 weeks, it did start to get a bit stinky so I threw it in the wash and my troubles were gone. I have to mention, this aspect of the E-cloth has been a HUGE selling point for both my boyfriend and me. After using this for a couple of weeks, he asked me when we would be getting some more. He is not the type to show his excitement often, so this was a very good sign! We will definitely be investing in a few more all purpose E-cloths in the near future.

The E-cloth glass and polishing cloth that came in the kitchen pack is a much thinner cloth than the general purpose E-cloth. E-cloth makes this product thin, rigid, and knitted to ensure ideal cleaning of hard surfaces. The great thing about this cloth is that is it said to both clean light grease and dirt while polishing your surface. The E-cloth website says that this cloth is perfect for windows and mirrors, but also works on stainless steel and chrome. The best part of all, it that the glass and polishing E-cloth is said to leave your surfaces clean and polished without leaving scratches, smears, or streaks.

When I used the E-cloth glass and polishing cloth for the first time, I tested it on three different surfaces: our glass coffee table, our bathroom mirror, and our stainless steel microwave (the outer surface). When I first tried it on my coffee table, I was surprised by how well it worked. I cleaned it just a few days ago with another natural based cleaner and it didn’t work too well. I came back today, tried cleaning it with my new e-cloth and it did a great job! Much better than the other cleaner (and paper towel) that I used previously. Next, I tried it on the bathroom mirror. At first, I wasn’t impressed. I noticed that after it dried there were large water spots visible. I left it for a while and came back. After giving the cloth a chance to dry a bit, I tried cleaning the mirror again. This time, the response was much better. I realized there wasn’t a problem with the E-cloth, but there was a problem with my cleaning method. Apparently, I didn’t ring it out well enough the first time…lesson learned. I also learned that if your mirror is dusty, it is probably best to quickly wipe it off with something other than the E-cloth. The E-cloth wasn’t able to remove all the dirt and dust at the same time. Finally, I decided to go ahead and try to clean something that was stainless steel: our microwave. Again, I was happy with the results. After cleaning with the E-cloth, the dirt was gone and the microwave was almost as shiny as new.

E-cloth explains that both of their cloths can be washed in the washing machine with hot water over 300 times, while continuing to work just as well as the first day you took them out of their package. By washing your E-cloths in hot water, it “allows the fibers to shed dirt, grime, and kill any bacteria that may have been captured during use.” In addition, “E-cloth can be dried by handing or use of a dryer providing no fabric softener is use.”

As shown in my above examples, the E-cloth all-purpose cloth and the E-cloth glass and polishing cloth are both fabulous investments. You can purchase the kitchen pack online for only $17.98 (that includes free shipping)! Since I will be able to use each cloth over 300 times and eliminate the need for additional cleaning supplies, I can just imagine the money we will save. I am very excited!

Just to leave you thinking, here are some shocking statistics that E-cloth sent me when they first contacted me about doing a review of their products:

-“Using E-cloth® paper towel usage can be reduced by 40 rolls per year per household resulting in savings of $40-$80 (per year, per household).”

-“If every household in the US used E-cloth as a primary cleaning method in lieu of paper towels for clean-up, the United States would reduce its landfill use by 1.6 million tons AND save $54.7 million in landfill dumping fees.”

-Finally, “Using E-cloth® reduces an average household’s use of chemicals by up to 80 percent, saving consumers up to $180 per person, per year.” E-cloth also ensures that you will reduce your family’s exposure to the toxic chemicals that are found in standard household cleaning products.

Do you want to enter to win a E-cloth Kitchen Pack to try in your home? Head on over to Everything 'In the Kitchen' Up Close where I will be giving away an E-cloth Kitchen Pack to two (2) lucky winners!

Good Luck!

Review
You may remember a review I did about a month ago for two other Watkins' products: Watkins Aloe & Green Tea All Purpose Wipes and the Cucumber & Dill Snack & Dip Seasoning. If you missed it, please feel free to go here and read my review of these two great products. Thanks to Martha (once again), I will be reviewing two other Watkins' products. I think after all these reviews, I will be hooked on Watkins! The Watkins' products I had a chance to review this time were the J.R. Watkins Natural Apothecary Calming Bath Soak and Watkins' Analgesic Balm.

First of all, giving myself permission to relax for this review was definitely nice; I usually have showers and don't often treat myself to baths. The goal of Watkins' Calming Bath Soak is for you to "indulge your skin while relaxing your senses in a warm bath." The main aspect of this bath soak that I love is that it is 100% natural. I haven't seen many stores that offer a similar product. Second of all, I love that this bath soak uses natural seas salts and Vitamin E to soften and moisturize your skin while providing you with the relaxing qualities of lavender aromatherapy oil. The addition of lavender makes this bath soak even more relaxing than most; it is a perfect way to put your feet up at the end of a long day. Thirdly, I think the value for the money is quite comparable to other bath soaks of the same quality. From the picture shown online, I expected to receive a small container of this bath soak. But when I received it, I noticed that it was bigger than I expected. After the first use, I realized how little of the bath soak needs to be used for one bath. The container suggests 2 tablespoons but I used only two capfuls and it still worked great! Because of this, I can imagine the 400g container of Bath Soak will last me a very long time. Watkins is certain that their Calming Bath Soak will turn your tub into a "calming mineral spa."

Next, I had the chance to try out Watkins' Analgesic Balm. Before coming across Watkins, I had never seen a natural variation of this type of product. I am happy to know that such a product exists. After reading through all the information on this product, I was surprised to hear that this product has been around since 1959! When a product holds to the test of time like this one has, you know it has to be good! Watkins Analgesic Balm helps eliminate the pain from muscle tension, soreness, fatigue and is also proven to temporarily relieve minor arthritis pain and pain from strains. This balm is great because it isn't greasy and it won't stain your clothes or other fabrics (such as your bedding). Since I am on the computer quite a bit, my shoulders often get really sore. One night I couldn't take it anymore and I needed some relief. Luckily, I had the analgesic balm right beside my computer... just waiting to be used. Within only a few minutes of applying the analgesic balm to my shoulders, I felt a wonderfully soothing warm sensation that helped my muscles to relax and the pain to subside. I was impressed with how easy this balm was to apply. It wasn't messy and it lasted longer than I thought it would. Finally, one thing that really impresses me about this Analgesic Balm is the cost. Usually natural products are more expensive than non-natural products. However, in this case, Watkins' Analgesic Balm actually "costs less per ounce than the leading national brand!" Next time I have aches and pains, I will definitely choose Watkins before any other brand.

A few months ago, I had never tried Watkins' products, although I had heard great things about them. Thanks to Martha, I have had a chance to try four different Watkins' products and I have been more than pleased with all of them. I am very impressed with the number and variety of products that Watkins' sells. The next item on my list of Watkins' items to try will be Watkins' Vanilla. From everyone's comments in the last giveaway, I can tell that it must be amazing!

Relish! Review & Giveaway!

Do you find yourself scrambling every night to feed your busy family with no idea of what to make? Or, do you find yourself picking up supper on the way home at a local fast food restaurant or from the prepared section of your local deli? Perhaps you feel like you are spending way too much money on food and you want to find a way to reduce your food budget. Fact: Meal Planning is an activity that can allow you to achieve all of these goals…and more!

Introducing Relish! “A weekly menu planner aimed to help busy families put wonderful meals on the table every night. No sloppy casseroles or expensive kitchen blunders. Instead look for everyday food…with a gourmet twist.”

Relish! was developed by a busy team of two moms (Ann and Karen) who always seemed to have trouble coming up with solutions for dinner. Like many families, they just did not feel like there was enough time in the day. Never mind extra time to be reading through piles of cookbooks for meal ideas. It was at that time that Ann and Karen decided that there must be an easier way.

Relish! is dedicated to providing you and your family with weekly meal plans that are quick, healthy, and expose your children to a variety of new foods and flavors. To ensure that each meal from Relish! is both delicious and easy to make, Master cook Gwenn Wilson tests out each recipe and offers shortcuts and tips to help you through the process.

The founders of Relish! have also developed a meal-planning program especially for people with gluten intolerance. For more information, please visit
Gfree.

Review
When I first came across Relish!, I was surprised by all the different features their website offers. Not only do they offer recipes and allow you to make weekly meal plans with them, but they also allow you to take your meal plan and automatically turn it into a shopping list that separates your items into different categories (e.g. Meats, produce, etc.) to make shopping easier. In addition, on the Relish! website you will find weekly articles (features) on a variety of topics (this week’s article talks about clarified butter). Relish! provides menus for horsdoeuvres, dinner and movie events, lunches, desserts, this-and-that, and freezer meals. After looking through all they have to offer, I can definitely see how they are different from other meal-planning programs.

Here is what Relish! had to say about their program:
“We offer the plan to get you out of your dinner rut for good and to prepare healthy and creative dinners, every night. You choose your weekly recipes, the grocery list is tabulated, shop once a week and have all of the ingredients needed for five meals. [View a menu]

  • Each week you choose five entrees to make for the week.
  • All dinners are kitchen-tested (no more disasters) and take 30 minutes or less prep.
  • The comprehensive grocery list makes grocery shopping a snap. [View a grocery list]
  • 5 dinners and sides cost less than $95 per week at the grocery store. You will notice substantial savings by sticking to a list!
  • A Relish! subscription is only $7 per month. [Subscribe for a 6-month or 12-month period and save 15-30% off the regular price.]
  • Monthly freezer menus are included in the subscription, plus much more [read on]

By planning only 5 meals each week, it gives you a little wiggle room. This means you can either
use one night to make a family favorite, to make a Relish! Dinner and Movie night, to go out for dinner, or to eat leftovers.

The first time I used Relish!, I noticed this interesting feature at the bottom of the page called the ‘recipe legend’. This legend deciphers common symbols that are used to identify their meals easily. For example, kid friendly, Crockpot, lower calorie, one pot, dessert, etc. I really like this idea because it makes finding meals that my family will enjoy or that I will enjoy making, so much easier.

Now, to give you an idea on my eating habits, I am a fairly picky eater (my boyfriend is too; although he may not willingly agree with this statement). So, when I first saw that I was only going to be offered 15 meal options and have to pick 5 of them for the week, I was a bit concerned. Needless to say, the first week didn’t go overly well. I admit, I was a bit worried that this whole review process wouldn’t go as planned. However, as a couple more weeks went by, I started to see more and more meals that both my boyfriend and I would enjoy.

I soon discovered the past menus and favorites functions on Relish! This turned my worries upside down. Relish! allows you to add meals that you and your family enjoyed to ‘Your
Favorites’ easily. Each week when you go to plan out your menu, you will find a box that lists all the favorites that you have selected in the past. All you need to do is select “Add to Week” and the meal gets added to your weekly menu. Once you’ve selected five meals plus one dessert (optional), you are able to choose how many people you will need to feed. Relish! allows you to choose from family sizes of 2 – 8. Finally, all you do is click ‘Create Your Custom Menu’ and Relish! does all the hard work for you. Relish! will look through all the recipes you’ve chosen and create one shopping list (separated into categories). Underneath the shopping list, you will find the recipes, instructions, and nutritional information for all your recipes! In my opinion, it doesn’t get much easier than this! I am very excited that we will no longer have to eat the same boring meals week after week. I am definitely looking forward to eating some new & interesting meals (I am sure my boyfriend is happy about that as well).

Besides the meal planning that Relish! offers, my other two favorite features are the Lunch menus and the Dinner and Movie menus. First of all, I love the lunch menus because they give great ideas other than traditional PB&J sandwiches. Two weeks of lunch ideas are provided on the Relish! website. Each idea comes with a recipe and step-by-step instructions. These ideas are great on their own or can easily be matched with your child’s current favorites! Second of all, I really enjoyed reading through their Dinner and Movie menus. This reminds me of that TBS show called Dinner and a Movie; they pair a movie with a themed dinner for a night of fun. This is a great idea for family night, or get-togethers with family and friends. One of the menus that I am hoping to use in the next little while is the one for Kung Fu Panda. This menu contains items such as Jack Black Punch, Kung Pao Chicken, Panda Cake, as well as others.

In conclusion, I am extremely happy to have found Relish! This is a great program that will not only save me time and frustration, but money too! I am looking forward to seeing the new recipes that pop up in the weeks to come.

What can you win? One winner will receive a 1-year Relish! subscription.
